This pickup combination is the true formula for great vintage tone. Our standard NP6 placed beside our standard NJ6 is the simplest path to take if you are looking to achieve great old school vibes. Comparatively, in terms of our other P/J combos, like the NPVJ4SE or NPVJ4SV, their design is orchestrated around the manipulation of vintage tone. In choosing these pickups, your bass will bleed tuneful timbre that resonates between the throaty presence of the NP6 and the pleasant high end of the NJ6—truly a pairing that is destined to give your P/J style defined character and nostalgic dimension.
Technical Details:
History: This P/J set was created to supply players with a satisfying grip on the tricky balance of tone that occurs with the precision and jazz combination. Their design is the truest representation of the P/J compromise; a simple combination that has become the shop recommended choice for when a player is first attempting to sustain the problematic paradigm of the P/J universe.

Alnico III magnets differ from Alnico V in that they are warmer with a softer character. Think of them like a 60’s J style sound taken even further down the warm and fat path. Alnico V by contrast is brighter, cleaner and punchier, and will have a more wiry, stringy character. As another example, we’d recommend A3 for fretless or a fat 60’s Jaco type thing and A5 is great for a modern slap type thing or an R and B sound.
Alnico V comes standard.

"I discovered Nordstrand through one of my bass teachers at MI, Mike Mennell who uses aSadowsky basses. He definitely influenced my decision to buy a Sadowsky, which came with Nordys in it. I use the NP/J 5 string configuration but have recently upgraded my bridge pickup to a Big Split (and I totally love it!!!) I’ve been using and preaching Nordstrand pickups for four years now, and totally dig it!!" - Kurt Blankenship
