Jeff Matz from Seattle, currently living in Vancouver, WA.
What year did you start playing: I started picking out melodies on my grandparent’s piano when I was around 7 or 8. I got my first guitar around 1988, and first picked up a bass in 1990. I have been playing bass professionally since 1996, I joined HOF in 2006. We’ve toured all over the world both headlining and opening for bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Opeth, Melvins etc.
In 2019 our song Electric Messiah won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. We’re now preparing to hit the studio to record our 10th studio album.
I use Dunable custom basses, and a hybrid bass rig which includes Hiwatt, Ampeg, Bergantino, Darkglass, and Soldano amplification and cabinets, as well as a selection of distortion effects pedals. I utilize both bass and guitar amps/cabs in conjunction to achieve my sound.
How did you discover Nordstrand? I had heard good things about Nordstrand pickups for years. I decided to try a Big Split in one of my custom basses and loved it! Now I have Power Blades, Big Singles, 2 Band Preamp
I bought my first pickup in 2014.
Nordstrand pickups and electronics deliver a powerful and authoritative sound - crushing lows and a crisp, natural top end that does not sound overhyped. Loving the bass tones I’m getting with them!
