Founded on December 28th, 2010, Beardly Customs, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the brain child of luthier Rick Link. Rick had always wanted a custom bass and decided to give a shot at building one. That was enough to get rolling on a small business and the rest is history. Beardly Customs offers quality, handmade basses and guitars at affordable prices. Are you ready to grow your Beardly?
How did you get started building? I always wanted a custom bass, but never could afford one. So i decided to do it myself.
Do you play bass or guitar? Both
Why do you build instruments? Music is my passion and bass is my weapon of choice. I enjoy being able to take lumber and make a fully functioning instrument from it.
How many instrument do you build per year? 8-10
When did you start using Nordstrand Pickups? About 2 or 3 years ago. I saw them in various basses over the years and had always heard good things about them. I won a set of Big Singles at an event a few years back and put them in a bass i built. They sounded great and i was hooked. As of now, the Big Blademan pickup is my favorite.
What do you believe are the most important factors in tone?Tone starts with your hands and no two players sound alike.
What are your favorite materials to work with? Figured maples, purpleheart, walnut, buckeye burl, etc.
