Cody began playing bass when he was 14. Since most of his friends were guitarists and drums weren’t an option in my household due to noise, he had one clear choice of instrument. In middle school and high school he played covers and was in a Metallica tribute band. He then took a pause from music, but in 2015, he returned and honed his talents. He has shared the stage with such bands as Cancer Bats Pennywise, Danzig, Kobra and The Lotus, and The Agonist to name a few.
Describe your rig: I am currently playing a Ibanez SR2605E with Nordstrand Big Singles Pickups as my primary bass, with an Ibanez SRFF806 multiscale equipped with custom Big Singles to match the profile of the previous pickups that were replaced. I run through a GK RBX 810 Cab, with a GK MB800 Head. I am currently using Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi, for a little bit of fuzz on the clean tone.
How did you discover Nordstrand? Currently I am using the Big Single pickups in my two primary basses. I stumbled upon Nordstrand purely by chance. I purchased a Ibanez bass nearly 3 years ago that came stock with the Big Single pickups. It was a 6 string bass, which I don’t really play very often, and regrettably sold down the road. However, I never forgot how those Big Singles sounded, and my pursuit of recapturing that tone was not a fruitful endeavor, so in the end I had a pair of the Big Singles custom made for my multiscale Ibanez roughly a year later. The Big Singles are easily the best pickups I’ve heard in a bass for the type of music I tend to play. I love the punchy low end they offer, with the clarity to cut through the mix to give my bass lines presence in the song, you really get the best of both worlds with these. Since having the Big Singles made for my SRFF805, I have not played another pickup, my other primary HAD to come with these pickups or I wouldn’t buy it. I won’t use anything else. Nothing delivers like Nordstrand.
