Martell Padgett was born on December 8, 1984 in Meridian, Missisisppi. At the age of three, his parents moved him and his 4 sibling with them to his father’s hometown of Johnston, SC.. In South Carolina, Martell grew up in a church organization called The Pentecostal Church of God. This is the place where he would hear his Dad play music and preach sermons often. It was also here that Martell developed a hunger for music.
At the age of six, David Padgett sat down with his son Martell and showed him a few notes on the Bass Guitar. David didn’t know much about Bass guitar so he could only show Martell a couple of things. Martell was unfortunately on his own musically from that point. He begin to develop an “ear” and could play anything he saw and heard. Progressing forward, Martell’s family moved back to a small town called Buckatunna, Mississippi.
Back in Mississippi, he begin to make acquaintances with many other musicians that has lead him to play with gospel artist such as, Rance Allen, Beverly Crawford, JJ Harriston, and was a guest on the Dorinda Clark Cole show in 2010. He has since then released an instrumental solo bass album entitled “A Higher Calling” in 2015. He is currently still serving at The Pentecostal Church Of God, as well as being a member of the bands Fade2Blue and Aakeela and The Beats. He is a freelance bassist as well in which he does studio bass sessions for artist that need it.
Describe your rig: I’m currently playing through a Peavey Tour 700 head and the matching 4/10 cabinet. I’m endorsed with Muckelroy Bass Company. I play Muckelroy Basses. I have my own signature model called the “MP5”.
How did you discover Nordstrand: I was playing one of my friends Basses that had Nordstrand Pickups in it. I absolutely LOVED the time that I was getting from the instrument.
What Nordstrand Products do I use: Recently, The Muckelroy Bass Company released a new bass model called “The Muck J Bass”. I was asked by the company to try out the Nordstrand Big Blades in the Bass.
How long have I been using Nordstrand products: About 2 months now........I’m loving every moment of it!!
Artist in whom I’m currently working with: I’ve had the pleasure of working with many artist, but now I’m working on Basskamikaze the Artist now.
